I have shared so much over the last couple of years about the power of our words but I don’t think we can emphasize it too much.
Words are so powerful because we are designed in God’s image and He used words to create the entire world, the words of Jesus healed and delivered. Words bring life and words can bring death. Our words can lift someone up, put a smile on their face or tear them down and put tears in their eyes. Our words also have power in the heavenly places. In the name of Jesus we can say to a mountain to be moved, say to a sickness to go, say to a demonic enemy to leave and according to the word of God there is action, our words are filled with His authority.
Our words are also filled with His creative power. We can actually create, via the words of our mouths, that which we do not see, just as He did.
Hebrews 11:3
3Â By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Speaking faith filled words is God’s WAY to bring things into existence.
A little review: In Joel 3: God says; “Let the weak say I am strong”.  So I need to confess strength in weakness, abundance in the face of apparent lack. We have spoken often that words are the most powerful thing in the universe.  God created the universe by the
words He spoke. Â God released His faith in words. Â Man is created in the image of God, therefore man releases his faith in words.
Ephesians 5:1 literally tells us to be imitators of God as children imitate their parents.  To imitate God, you must talk like Him and act like Him. What a great reminder. Am I speaking as God speaks. Am I speaking life into every situation? Or am I speaking that which I see, not what can be. Jesus was imitating His Father and getting the same results as His Father. He told us we could do the same with Him. Copy Him and watch for extraordinary results.
John 14:12
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
I love that we can simply copy Jesus. He spoke to things. He spoke to the wind and the sea and demons and the fig tree. He even spoke to the dead! We are to speak to things, our checkbooks our businesses, our health and our relationships. Just imagine Jesus paying you a little visit and telling you that everything you spoke would come to pass. I think we would use a bit more care with our words! We all have up and down weeks. The key is that although the circumstances or needs may change our response should not. Facing challenges of any kind we are to respond with words of life which literally breathes life into the situation where the enemy would bring death.
Romans 4:17b
Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed.
We are to speak those things which God promised in His word as though they already exist! We are not just to believe or think them, we have to open our mouths. The hard part is that when we are slammed with injustice or have our rights violated or are misunderstood our first reaction is often not words of life! That is unless words of life have become a habitual response…..
I love the story of David, he met a giant (don’t we all) and in preparation for battle he ran toward him confessing out loud what he believed the end of the battle to be!
We have a great weapon in our declaration, we are wielding the actual sword of the spirit, the word of God.. When we release God’s word through prayer, confessing His word, adopting His attitude and taking God inspired action we will be successful. We need to run towards the threat with the promises of God coming out of our mouth.
It is so important to be intentional with our words. We cannot afford to be careless. It is fine to share with those we trust our concerns and prayer requests, but sandwich in the requests with the praise and declaration.
What I am learning is that if I want faith filled words to come out of my mouth, words that bring life to both myself and to others, words that change things
Hebrews 10:23
23Â Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Without wavering! The enemy will speak negative thoughts into our minds and perhaps use well meaning friends or family to steal our confession through words of discouragement or simple fatigue in the midst of the wait. So we need to continually remind ourselves that we are God’s representatives here on earth. We must speak as He spoke, with boldness and authority believing that our confession has the power to change circumstances.
This is an example of what I have looked to as I have believed for financial resources. We create our own list of promises specific to our need at any given time.
Job 10:12
12Â You have granted me life and favor, and Your providence has preserved my spirit.
Psalm 30:7
7Â By Your favor, O Lord, You have established me as a strong mountain;
Psalm 89:17
17Â For You are the glory of my strength , and by Your favor my horn is exalted and I walk with an uplifted face!
Proverbs 3:4
4Â I will find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight of God and man.
Deuteronomy 8:18
18 I will [earnestly] remember the Lord my God, for it is He Who gives me power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to my fathers, as it is this day.
Deuteronomy 28:8,11,13
8Â The Lord shall command the blessing upon me in my storehouse and in all that IÂ undertake. And He will bless me in the land which He gives me.
11Â And the Lord shall make me have a surplus of prosperity,
13Â And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them, 14Â and if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
God has More than enough promises to meet your need whatever it is! More than enough patience, resources, health. Whatever the need all God’s promises for them is Yes and Amen
2 Corinthians 1:20
Hebrews 11:1 reads, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
I was impressed by the word “now”. Now faith is. In the present moment. Faith and hope are different. Hope dreams and plans for a future event. Faith on the other hand carries out the plan. It does not look to the future to receive, it receives now what ever promise of God it has laid hold of. Faith is very active. Faith see, faith believes, faith declares with confidence and faith accomplishes that which is hoped for. It is not what you have already, what you can see and feel but it is a guarantee, a kind of title deed to hold until the promise is fulfilled. So when you walk by faith you really can be filled with joy because although it may appear to the natural eye that nothing has changed and nothing is happening you know the promise is yours today. You know that you know.
Hebrews 13:15
15Â Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
Acknowledging his name is to acknowledge all his name stands for, provision, healing, protection, peace: Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Nissi…
Praising God gives us a new kind of supernatural vision. With the eye of faith you can see the victory ahead. Praising God increases our faith and that fills us with the joy and peace that demonstrates to the world that we walk to the tune of a drummer they do not hear but are oh so curious about.
“Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing” (Psalms 107:21-22).
Praise sets an ambush for the devil. No wonder he flees at the sound of praise! When Israel praised God, the walls of Jericho fell down. When Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God, the Lord shook open the doors of the jail of Philippi (Acts 16:23-24). These testimonies build our faith that God will do for us as He did for them. Chains will break, doors will open, enemies will flee and miracles will be ours.
Listen to yourself everyday, who do you sound like? If it is not like Jesus, then perhaps like me, it is time for a confession and attitude tune up!
