It always amazes me to be reminded of the incredible and joyful love of God. From the very beginning the Father and Jesus experienced delight in one another’s company and then shared the same with us.

30 I was there, close to the Creator’s side[a] as his master artist.[b]
Daily he was filled with delight in me
as I playfully rejoiced before him.[c]
31 I laughed and played,
so happy with what he had made,
while finding my delight in the children of men.[d]

Proverbs 8:30-31

Proverbs 8 speaks of Wisdom, which we know is Jesus. Here we see the most amazing picture of fellowship, creativity and joy. Jesus, right next to the Father as He created the world, as His master artist! The father was filled with delight in the son on a daily basis as Jesus rejoiced before Him. Jesus was thrilled at what his father was making and then we find the most amazing truth, Jesus found His delight in our creation! We see this life and light again in John1: 3-4.

“And through his creative inspiration this Living expression made all things, for nothing has existence apart from him! Life came into being, because of him, for his life is the light for all humanity.”

As the Father and son created and fellowshipped together it was their intent what we would do the same with them. God gave Adam the joy of naming the animals, creative liberty. He walked with him in the cool of the garden: fellowship. Of course we know that the enemy came in with the introduction of sin there was a temporary chasm between man and God. Yet we see that God continually longed for that the unbroken and habitual fellowship. As we look at Enoch we see that kind of relationship with man and God once again.

“In reverent fear and obedience Enoch walked with God: and he was not found among men, because God took him away to be home with Him.” Gen 5:24

In another version it states that Enoch habitually walked with God. It was his habit to do so and God enjoyed him so much He simply took him!

God then chooses an entire people as His own, Israel. He rescues them and we see the same love we saw in Genesis.

“ Now therefore, if you will in fact obey My voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be My own special possessionand treasure from among all peoples of the world, for all the earth is mine.”

Ex 19:5

God promises to be present with His people again!

“ For I will turn toward you with favor and regard and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish and confirm My covenant with you.  You will eat the old supply of abundant produce and clear out the old to make room for the new. I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul will not reject nor separate itself from you. I will walk among and you be your God and you shall be my people.”

Leviticus 26:9-12

“Sing for joy and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I am coming, and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord.”

Zechariah 2:10

Now again we see the delight of God in the sons of men:

“ The Lord your God is in your midst, A Warrior who saves.

He will rejoice over you with joy:

He will be quiet in His love (making no mention of your past sins),

He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy

Zephaniah 3:17

We now have this same Jesus and Papa God promising once again to dwell with each of us.

“Jesus replied, “loving me empowers you to obey my word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you and make you our dwelling place” John 14:23

This journey through the story of God brings us to a place back to the beginning. Renewed fellowship and delight once again through Jesus and we are told how to remain there:

“I love each of you with the same love that the Father loves me. You must continually let my love nourish your hearts. If you keep my commands, you will live in my love, just as I have kept my Fathers commands, for I continually live nourished and empowered by his love. My purpose for telling you these things is so that the joy that I experience will fill your hearts with overflowing gladness! So this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you.” John 15: 9-12

So we come full circle:

“But now I am returning to you so Father, I pray that they will experience and enter into my joyous delight in you so that it is fulfilled in them and overflows” John 17:13

The joyous delight the son had in the father’s company is brought to earth as He delights in us and we are to dance in His love as we love and delight in one another.
